I failed my CSW (computer skills workshop) classes at CMU and never touched a computer when I was studying painting for my BFA. 17 years later, I now program in PHP, AS3, Java among other languages. I love programming more than I ever thought I would. It actually has become addicting. It has not been easy and I have hit my head against the wall many times. Processing is a great way for visual types to get into it. 'Sketch' from MIT is another solution for people just learning.

I feel the same way you do. This is why I picked up responsibilities for Hackety Hack. It was literally created because of this sentence:

"I think the challenge is that, until relatively recently, the barrier to entry into writing software was dauntingly high."

I completely agree. Unfortunately, it's still going to be roughly four weeks until it's super easy to install by novices, but if you're curious about the project before then, check it out: http://hacketyhack.heroku.com/

In those couple of weeks, I'll have actual nice walkthroughs and installers. Right now, it takes a little bit of hacking first ;).
