We’re Going On Tour.

From artist-hacker collectives to touring punk bands to post-digital campaigns like Nike Chalkbot, Deeplocal’s story and unique approach to working with agencies and brands is unusual to say the least. Our culture and work atmosphere is more like a band than a traditional company. So in true Deeplocal fashion, we’re going on tour…we call it our Gutter Tech Tour.

Since we’re still a small studio, we’re taking a DIY approach to telling our story to the best ad agencies across the country- we’ve purchased two Jet Blue All-You-Can-Fly passes for $500 each (yes, we even opted for the cheaper tickets that don’t allow us to fly on Friday or Sunday). Nathan and I (Heather) will be representing our team; we’ll be armed with two small GoLite backpacks, an ultra-light tent, our official tour posters, and a massive itinerary.

We’re visiting the coolest agencies and brands in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, Aruba (ok, I’m lying; that’s vacation), New York, Denver, and Austin.

If you’d like us to tell our story at your agency or brand, just send an email to heather@deeplocal.com. We’d love to meet you!

We’re Telling Deeplocal’s Unique Story.

Deeplocal was founded by Nathan Martin, a former punk screamer of internationally-touring band, Creation is Crucifixion (video), who also ran a subversive art group. The art collective, called Carbon Defense League, traveled to hacker conferences and art festivals and taught people how to reverse engineer their gameboys (video) and other objects. Several of their other projects resulted in cease and desist letters from big brands like Walmart and passionate debates with conservative talking heads like Bill O’Reilly. One of those projects was (video) Re-code.com (video). Nearly identical to Priceline.com, the site let people truly name their own price on retail goods by printing out custom barcodes and then using self-scanners to check out.

Building on a ten year history of hacking electronics and manipulating the mainstream media, Deeplocal is employing it’s unique “gutter technology” process to create engaging real world experiences that ignore boundaries between technologies, digital space, and the physical world.
